Little Jack Harold isn't so little anymore :( In fact, most days we find ourselves saying "when did he get so big?" and "why is he a little boy now?" It's definitely a little sad, but at the same time, he is incredibly fun and hilarious the older he gets and the more "big kid" things he can do.
- Recently we started a music class on Wed nights. For the most part, Jack does a really good job listening and trying to do whatever Ms. Michelle is doing, but he does get a bit distracted here and there. There is a little girl Lilly in the class that seems to be a bit of a trouble starter (I think she is hilarious), and Jack some times likes to follow her lead. But for the most part, he gets back on track very easily and we have a lot of fun. At the end of the class, he gets little stamps on his hands and he loves coming home and showing Andrew what new designs he has.
- P has also started taking him to story hour at the library on Monday mornings. I get lots of good reports from that class too, and I am told that Jack is a very good helper at the end of class and helps Miss Jen push the tub of toys back into the closet.
- In terms of speech, he definitely has a lot of "words" but at this point they are all still 1 syllable, though for whatever reason over the weekend he started giving "toaster" 2 syllables and this morning he did a few "buckles" before going to "buh". Every once and a while he will be distracted and will bust out a much cleaner version of Grandma (normally "Ga") or will string together a "bye ma ma". He'll get there.
- Clothes wise we are into 2T, which is crazy, but they fit! 18 month pants are too short on him, but he can still squeeze himself into 18 month tops. Diapers we are on our last box of 4s I think, and we've bumped the night time diapers up to 5s. This move was also down in order to try and prevent pee outs at night, but the kid still manages to wet himself 2-3 times a week it seems.
- Speaking of bodily fluids, we are in NO way even thinking about potty training, but apparently Jack has other ideas. Not really, but he has wanted to sit on the toilet twice this week. Both times he just sits there and smiles like he's a big deal. We tell him what the potty is for and ask him to try and get his pee out, but obviously nothing happens. I think it will still be quite some time before we are attempting to train for real. I definitely don't see him trained before BN2 arrives this spring!
- He is a genius on the iPad, it's ridiculous. He can turn it on, get to his apps and navigate his way through any of them. It's actually kind of nice when I need to make dinner or do something for 2 minutes without him under feet. And for the most part, he does really well once told it's time to put it away even when he's not ready to give it up (which is never).
A few funny happenings from this month:
- one morning at 4:30am I heard some rustling through the monitor and looked to see that he was awake. Then I hear "low? looooowww?" (hello). Most of the time when he calls for us in the middle of the night, we are total suckers and fall for it, but in my head I said "it's 4:30am little boy. No one is home for you right now." He went back to sleep no problem.
- Last Sunday morning, I heard some noise through the monitor and looked to see Jack with his blanket over him like ghost baby, just walking all around his crib. He had his arms reached out, feeling his way along the rails, crashed and giggled multiple times and just had a big time for almost 5 minutes. We were cracking up watching him!
- We went to a pumpkin patch and were given bright green paper bracelets upon admission. Jack kept looking at his, and then tapping his naked wrist until Andrew took his off to give Jack 2 bracelets.
-We got an awesome house rules sign from Peetey and Peaches (thanks Steph!!) that we hung up this weekend. Jack notices anything new in the house, so he was all over this and we have probably read this about 30 times already. He reacts to every rule with an "ok", "no", "yeah" or giggle. Pretty funny.
The kid is hilarious every single day, and is stuffed full with personality! Can't believe we're creepin on 2!!!
