7 Months!
Whoa, time flies when you are having fun! Jackypants is 7 months old and seems to be getting bigger and older by the day. Let's check in on all of the fun stuff he's up to these days:
- he is now into size 3 diapers and they fit surprisingly well. The kid is really working hard on getting some chubby thighs and his belly seems a lot bigger than usual the past couple of days. Still wearing 6 month clothes but it won't be long until we move into 9 months...I think I said that last month too - what do I know?
- holding steady with 2 bottom middle toothums. My Mom, Andrew and I all SWORE he was getting another bottom one shortly after the first 2 came in, but no such luck. I think it's somehow gone back down into his gums.
- he is a rolling champ. If you put him down on either his back or tummy, within 30 seconds he is off and rolling. Up until last week he would only roll to the right, but he's now learned how to come back the other way so that helps to keep him contained in one area.
- he CAN sit up for long periods of time on his own. Just today he sat for a good 5 minutes playing and did a great job. Usually he gets distracted and loses focus and just falls backwards so he still needs to be supervised.
- naps are still a labor of love. Some days he'll take 2 good 1-2 hour naps and a cat nap in between and other days we struggle to get him to stay down for more than 25-30 minutes. Some day we'll figure it out but until then, I'll keep thanking my lucky stars that he sleeps almost 12 hours a night for us.
- he is starting to make a lot of movements with his mouth to try and mimic us. If I say "MaMaMaMa" at him, which I do at least twice a day, he's starting to make the same movement with his mouth, though no sound comes out.
- he loves looking and grabbing at our faces, which is a personal fave of mine. It doesn't get much sweeter when I'm rocking him in my arms and he reaches up to grab my face and smile at me. He also loves to put his hand over Andrew's mouth while he's singing to him, as if to say "that's enough Dad."
- he's laughing more and more at super random things and we've been lucky to catch some good belly laughs on camera. Hilarious.
- He still loves his piano and has mastered all of the activities on it. Whenever he hits the button that plays songs and the "Itsy Bitsy Spider" comes on, he looks around to find us and make sure we perform the motions for him.
- He's mastered jumping in the jumperoo. At night when he starts to get nutty, he can really go to town. Tonight I had him in there for 10 mins or so and when I got him out he had worked up a sweat!
- he is still doing 2 meals of solids a day and for the most part does a good job. He always finishes the bowl, but sometimes he's more distracted than others and chews on the bib or his hands more than the food. And I think he has made a liar out of me and is no longer spitting as previously reported. He started to today but I took a break for a few minutes and then he was all business when we resumed. He has eaten sweet potatoes, carrots, squash, pears, bananas, and peaches.
- Andrew and Jack had their first Father/Son outing this past weekend. To a bar, obviously. They did a great job so I think I'll encourage them to hang on their own more often :)
- He has really started to notice and look for Lucy more - however one can only guess that this does not excite Lucy. She will tolerate him and let him "pet" her sometimes, but most of the time as soon as he gets close and his arms start flailing, she takes off.
- he no longer gasps when he is faced with wind and can tolerate direct sunshine more. In fact, if you blow in his face or the back of his neck he smiles.
Can't think of anything else of note to report. Here are some of the latest and greatest shots of Jack:

Little Drummer Boy
I'll admit that I am not always a fan of Andrew's love for playing music (hey, when I watch tv, I'd like to hear the tv vs. yet another rendition of Nirvana's "Teen Spirit") but I have to say that I absolutely love when he teaches Jack to "play" the guitar or the drums. Something about seeing Jack's arms do such deliberate, adult movements just cracks me up every time. And Jack loves it to. We did this video earlier in the week and every time I play it back for him he gets the biggest smile on his face. I think Uncle Jeffers will have a little protege on his hands :)
