Holy cats, how is this possible? 6 months old? Halfway to 1 year?! Unreal. What an amazing, tiring, fun, emotional, crazy fast 6 months. On to the good stuff:
Height - 26 3/4 inches (50%). I completely disagree with this measurement. I don't think the nurse measured correctly at all..
Weight - 16lbs 3oz (30%)
Head - 42cm (25%)
Not too much to report from the doc visit. He mentioned his head looked like it was shaping out a bit more, but it's still pretty lumpy back there. Doc also confirmed that Jack's crazy #2 schedule (once or twice a week) is totally fine, which is so strange, but on the plus side I've not changed a #2 diaper for weeks :) Jack took his 2 shots like a champ and Dr. Joyce even commented on how brave he was. Kinda crazy we won't be back for 3 months, pending no sickies (knock on wood).
Here are some other things Jack is up to as a big 6 month old:
- He's been doing a great job with oatmeal the past week, and is up to close to 2tbsp twice a day. More to follow on this topic in my next post.
- He is still sleeping very well at night. Down by 7:45 and up anywhere between 6 & 7. Most mornings he is still catching a few more Zzzs in our bed.
- We've said goodbye to the beloved swing last weekend for nap time. For the most part he's done pretty well. The first few days were a little rough and resulted in some pretty stinky naps, but each day has seemed to get a little better and he's able to nap a bit longer. As far as naps in general, he still fights us some days to go down, but knock on wood the past few days have been much better and I'm pretty encouraged he's close to being a nap champ.
- He is rolling all over the place and has started sleeping on his tummy in the middle of the night. I realize a lot of babies do this and that I can't stay up all night to flip him back over BUT, he has a habit of sleeping directly face down which is very unsettling. Even if we go in and turn his head to the side, he prefers to have his face straight down on the mattress. See evidence below.
- He can sit by himself for little stretches, but we're still not at the point where he can be left on his own. He's getting there.
- If he is standing up and leaning over something, he can hold his own weight on his own for little bits of time.
- He loves his step and play piano and has mastered all of the little tricks and activities on it. Last Friday the sound of the roller on the side turning resulted in the first set of deep belly laughs. It was incredibly cute and entertaining.
- He also loves his leap frog learning table. He's figured out how to turn the page of the book in the center which is really cool to me. He's started trying to turn pages in books too.
- He has graduated to the big boy seat in his stroller. He hangs on to the sides and doesn't quite relax all the way, but he seems to really enjoy being able to see in front of him and observe the surroundings.
- He gets 6oz bottles during the day, wears 6 month clothes and his days are numbered in size 2 diapers.
- He still loves mundane tasks like washing dishes, brushing teeth with the electric toothbrush, opening and closing his closet door and turning the light on and off in his room.
- He's full of squeals, giggles, gargles and coos. No "MaMa" or "DaDa" yet, but that's certainly not from lack of hearing them spoken from MaMa and DaDa.
Jack has had a few more exciting happenings that deserve their own posting to address - stay tuned!
